Washington, DC - U.S. Representative Warren Davidson (R-OH) issued the following statement on the Continuing Resolution (H.R.5325):

“I intend to vote ‘no’ on the Continuing Resolution (CR) brought to the floor tonight. Foremost, the resolution continues to fund the government on a fiscally unsustainable path. It continues the trend of what I call ‘math denialism’ - acting as though numbers don’t matter and that we can spend without consequences.

“Abortion providers Planned Parenthood and Profamilia’s increased access to government funds also prevents my support of this bill. Planned Parenthood, as the number one provider of abortions in America, has always deserved to be defunded. Despite the shocking videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s practice of selling baby parts for profit, we have made no progress in defunding the organization, and with this bill we are heading in the wrong direction.

“The CR allows government funding to expire in December during a lame duck session. The history of irresponsible governance in lame duck sessions undermines the democratic process. Congress should be held responsible for all their votes, but December votes will prevent accountability of those leaving office. Tonight’s vote will pave the way for increased spending levels being approved in December and the inclusion of the priorities of President Obama and Senate Democrats.”

“Even though Republicans control both the House of Representatives and Senate, no conservative goals were added to the CR, yet many Democratic ones were. Republicans have been empowered by voters to hold majorities in both chambers of Congress. This legislation should reflect that."
