WASHINGTON, D.C.— Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) introduced the REAL Meat Act of 2024 today alongside 8 other House colleagues. This legislation prohibits federal funding from being obligated or expended for the research, production, advancement, or enhancement of cell-cultured meat.

“Fake cell-cultured meat not only poses a health risk to the human body, but it also threatens the livelihoods of America’s hard-working ranchers, livestock farmers, and butchers. Recently, laws prohibiting lab-grown meat have been passed in states like Florida and Alabama. Congress must act to ensure U.S. taxpayers are not footing the bill for this inferior, experimental product.” said Rep. Davidson (R-OH)

The REAL Meat Act of 2024 is cosponsored by Reps. Hern, Steube, Rosendale, Hageman, Baird, Jackson, Massie, and Self.

Legislative Summary:
  • This legislation would prohibit federal funding from going towards the following activities:

    • The promotion or advertisement of cell-cultured meat products
    • The production of cell-cultured meat
