WASHINGTON, D.C.—After midnight on Saturday, after days of intense negotiations, the House voted on Speaker Nancy Pelosi's coronavirus-themed government expansion package. This bill was voted on without debate and less than a half-hour to read a 110-page bill.

Congressman Warren Davidson (R-OH) voted against the measure citing concerns over the rushed process and extent of the proposed entitlement expansion:

This billion dollar bill was voted on under suspension of the rules, without debate, or sufficient time to read the bill.

I'm greatly concerned about the human and economic cost of COVID-19, which is why I voted for last week's $8 billion health care bill to address the virus. However, I refuse to vote for bills written by a few people in a closed room, rammed through a highly politicized process, and without consideration for amendments or additions from the other 435 members of the House.

I am very encouraged by the President’s national emergency declaration. As he stood with government experts and leaders of critical businesses, confidently communicating an aggressive response, markets were improving. My colleagues and I continue our work towards legislation that will help address the problems we confront. To be sure, there will be tough days ahead, but I am confident that America will come through stronger than ever.

This virus represents a serious threat, but we need solutions to a temporary problem, not a permanent expansion of government control.
