Washington, D.C. – Congressman Warren Davidson (OH-08) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 8, a bill that would force universal background checks for anyone wanting to purchase or transfer a firearm, with very few, vague exceptions for law-abiding gun owners.
“Forcing people through a broken background check process is not a real solution. This bill does nothing to achieve genuine school safety, reduce murder or suicide, or prevent mass murder. This bill might do more harm than good as it would make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to purchase, own, carry and use a firearm.”
Congressman Davidson has advocated fixing the Constitutional problems associated with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) where government agencies are arbitrarily adding names to the background checklist absent due process.
