WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Warren Davidson released the following statement concerning his “no” vote today on the House Democratic majority’s new rules package.
“It’s incredibly disappointing that the Democrats’ first act in the majority is to advance a rules package that replaces common-sense market-oriented solutions with bad policies, which would push our nation closer to bankruptcy. This is completely irresponsible. While there are some positives in this rules package concerning floor availability and openness, I cannot support a process that erodes fiscal discipline, leaves government spending unchecked, and our national debt untamed."
Among the failings of the House Democrat majority’s rules package, it:
• Reverses the House rule requiring three-fifth’s approval for any bill that would increase federal income taxes, thereby making it easier to increase the tax burden on hard-working Americans.
• Strikes a rule requiring the Congressional Budget Office to release dynamic scoring of tax legislation. Dynamic scoring gives lawmakers important information on the impact of legislation on fiscal deficits and America’s economy.
• Appoints Speaker of the House Pelosi as the chief legal defender of Obamacare, with no check on her actions or spending.
• Sets the stage for a future attack on the Administration’s reasonable restrictions on American taxpayer funding of international abortions—a terrible action of violence on the most innocent among us.
• Reinstitutes the so-called “Gephardt Rule,” which allows Democrats to avoid even voting on the debt-limit, deeming the debt-limit increased with the passage of a budget resolution.
