WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Warren Davidson (OH-08), House Financial Services member, released the following statement after voting to support H.R. 6, the Support for Patients and Communities Act, a bill including many opioid-related provisions.

“We all know that bills passed in Washington alone will not stop this epidemic, but they will provide the tools and resources necessary to help.

“The Support for Patients and Communities Act reflects provisions the House passed in June. This bill includes new federal funding for patients in mental health institutions recovering from opioid-related abuses and allows Medicaid agencies to access prescription drug monitoring databases. The bill also permits Medicaid coverage for neonatal abstinence syndrome while enacting safe disposal requirements for opioids. This bill also enhances opioid detection capabilities at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Postal Service and funds various grant authorizations for youth prevention programs and Department of Labor workforce programs.

“The Support for Patients and Communities Act is good news for Butler, Preble, Darke Mercer, Miami, and Clark Counties and will help our efforts to combat the opioid epidemic gripping our state. We all have a part to play in rising up and compassionately defeating this crisis. I look forward to the president signing this bill.”
