During an appearance on Fox News, Congressman Warren Davidson said he thinks a summit with North Korea will position America to either negotiate a strong diplomatic deal or walk away.

With talks surrounding the potential summit between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in mid-June the White House acknowledged on Tuesday that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will meet with a top North Korean official this week in the U.S.

Davidson said the administration laid out some good expectations for the potential summit and that President Trump has done a good job at saying he isn't afraid of walking away if it isn't the deal he wants.

Davidson said talks with North Korea contrast those of the Iran deal where the U.S. was forced to negotiate from a very weak position.

"It’s important to keep [America's position] framed in a way as the President’s done to say, 'Hey we are hoping for good things, but we’re not committed to get a deal at any cost.' This is in contrast with the Iran deal where President Obama made it clear he wanted a deal, and that everything depended on getting a deal," said Davidson.

Davidson said that signaling America wants a nuclear free Korean peninsula ahead of the summit is a good thing.

He also went on to say that the biggest amount of pressure on North Korea is China, and China working together with the U.S. provides an opportunity for the North Korean people to enjoy the same kind of freedoms, peace, and prosperity that South Korean people have enjoyed for decades.

"I’ve been back and forth to China as a manufacturing guy before I was in office. Prior to that, I was in the Army, and I never thought I was going to China under friendly terms and conditions. I think the Chinese realize we would be better off to trade, and would rather not see something disrupt that. So I think all of those things have come together to put us in this place, where China can work in the same direction as the United States to apply pressure on North Korea," said Davidson.
