WASHINGTON D.C. - Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement in support of Scott Garrett's appointment as Chairman of the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im):
“Scott Garrett’s appointment as Chairman of the Export-Import Bank offers the best hope possible to rightly focus the government entity. Ex-Im was created eighty years ago by President Franklin Roosevelt. While the goals are noble, critics recognize the duplicity of claiming the creditworthiness of its balance sheet poses no risk to taxpayers, while suggesting that the risks it takes could not be borne by the private sector. Legendary for aerospace and aviation, Ohio is blessed with an abundance of companies that sell into sectors served by the Ex-Im Bank. I am hopeful that as Chairman, and a longtime critic of government subsidies (including export subsidies through Ex-Im), Scott Garrett can reform the agency and protect taxpayers from providing yet another backstop for private capital.”
