FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Troy, OH - Congressman Warren Davidson (R-OH) announced the nomination of 19 students of the 8th District for the United States Service Academies. The congressman will personally congratulate the nominees at a ceremony on Sunday, January 8. Securing a nomination, either Congressional or from another nominating source, is a required step in the academy application process.
Rep. Davidson made nominations based on proven leadership ability, academic accomplishment, athletic achievement, and extracurricular activities. An 11 member advisory board consisting of former military and community leaders aided Rep. Davidson in the interview and vetting process. A nomination, however, does not guarantee admittance to any of the service academies.
“As a graduate of the United States Military Academy, I know the vital role the service academies play in equipping leaders for our active force. First and foremost, we want young people who want to serve and lead on active duty,” said Davidson. “Then, we want to ensure that those people have the intellect, athletic ability and moral character to complete the demanding path through graduation and serve with distinction. We are blessed to have found so many young students who have those qualifications and are willing to serve our nation.”
Members who attend the U.S. Service Academies commit to serving at least five years in their respective military branch upon graduation.
The U.S. Service Academies are some of the most competitive higher education institutions in the nation. The U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Military Academy rank 13th and 15th respectively on the lowest college acceptance rates.
