Washington, D.C. – After filing a dispute at the World Trade Organization (WTO), the U.S. trade representative to China announced an end to China’s discriminatory tax exemption for Chinese-produced aircraft. The U.S. trade representative argued the Chinese practices to be “unfair” and “discriminatory.” Ohio’s aerospace industry employs thousands of people, many of them in the 8th Congressional District. U.S. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Troy) released the following statement in response to this news:
“As the birthplace of aviation, Ohio is naturally the nation’s leader in the aerospace industry. Ohio’s workers provide high quality, innovative goods at competitive prices. When others play by the same rules, American companies thrive. China’s latest behavior violated their WTO obligations. While the news from the WTO is a victory for transparency and open markets, we need stronger consequences for willful violations. I look forward to many more years of Ohio leading the world in aerospace innovation.”
