WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the House voted on the conference report for the National Defense Authorization Act. The House voted to pass the conference report and send the bill to the White House, where President Trump is expected to veto the bill.
After voting against this year’s NDAA, former Army Ranger Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) made the following statement.
“It pains me to have to vote against this year’s National Defense Authorization Act. As an Army Ranger and West Point graduate, I believe in a strong national defense and want to ensure that our fighting men and women have what they need to defend freedom and carry out their missions.
“However, a contingent of my fellow Republicans, along with House Democrats, have used the NDAA as a vehicle to limit the President’s authority to reduce troop levels in countries across the globe—even allied countries like Germany, where there is no active conflict. This effort is a direct response to President Trump trying to fulfill his promise to the American people by bringing our troops home from Afghanistan and ending the endless wars that have cost millions of lives and nearly bankrupted the nation.
“Along with a host of other bad policies, this bill could compromise any future President’s ability to redeploy troops as needed to respond to an urgent threat. I encourage the President to veto this bill and ask Congress to sustain his veto.”
