WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Warren Davidson (OH-08) today re-introduced the CBO Show Your Work Act, legislation that would require the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to disclose information about how it scores and reviews legislation.
“Transparency from the CBO is common sense, given the big impact that their numbers have on legislation,” said Congressman Warren Davidson. “The formulas and methodologies the CBO uses should be open for inspection, which virtually any economist or accountant will agree is common practice. Transparency provides a strong safeguard against errors, omissions, and bias. Consumer behavior algorithms, datasets, and methodologies in use by the CBO should be readily available for everyone to inspect and use at their own discretion. Having this data available will also save time and staff resources as offices will be able to test their legislation prior to introduction in Congress.”
The CBO Show Your Work Act requires the CBO to publish its data online in an easy to understand format. During the 115th Congress, Congressman Davidson was invited to discuss his bill and explain how it would impose greater transparency at the CBO and help lawmakers make better policy.
