WASHINGTON D.C. - Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) today cosponsored two amendments (H.J. Res. 6 and  H.J. Res. 50) to the U.S. Constitution imposing term limits on members of Congress. Both amendments would require votes by two-thirds of both chambers of Congress and 38 states to ratify before going into effect.

H.J. Res. 6 is sponsored by Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and would limit members of the House of Representatives to three terms and Senators to two. H.J. Res. 50  is sponsored by Rep. Raul Labrador and would limit members of the House of Representatives to six terms and Senators to two.

“The Founding Fathers did not envision America being run by an entrenched political class. Citizen-legislators were expected to heed the call, do their service in elected office, and then go back to their farm or business,” said Davidson. “Having the same old ideas recycled over and over got us to where we are now with $20 trillion in debt. I am proud to join my colleges in leading this charge for reform. To achieve the benefits of term limits, they need to be enacted nationally by a Constitutional amendment, not individually by state or district."

Americans are strongly in support of restoring a citizen legislature. In an October poll by Rasmussen, 74 percent of Americans favor term limits for Congress.
