WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the U.S. Senate acquitted President Donald J. Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

The mostly partisan vote (48-52 and 47-53) comes after weeks of arguments from both Democrats’ House Impeachment Managers and White House Counsel.

Last week, the Senate voted against calling new witnesses—instead relying on the case as the House Democrats presented it.

After the Senate acquitted the President, Congressman Warren Davidson (R-OH) gave the following statement:

“I’m thankful for this swift conclusion to the Democrats’ partisan attempt to remove President Trump from office. The Democrats have had their day in court, and the verdict shows that their biased case was weak and politically motivated.

“With these proceedings behind us, it is time for Congress to get back to work. As the President said last night, it’s time to reform our broken healthcare system, fund infrastructure, secure our borders, and continue to set America on a course for economic prosperity. We’re in the midst of a blue-collar boom and we should sustain this momentum to benefit all Americans."
