WASHINGTON, DC—Today the Trump administration announced that a permanent ceasefire agreement has been reached in Turkey.

This good news comes after Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo negotiated a temporary ceasefire last week, following an outbreak of violence after the relocation of American troops out of the region. Following this news, President Trump announced he would lift sanctions previously placed on Turkey.

Congressman Warren Davidson (R-OH) a former Army Ranger and West Point graduate, after hearing the news, remarked:

Turkey’s commitment to a permanent ceasefire is a truly encouraging start for this new era of American diplomacy. Rather than risk American lives, growing endless deficits while waging another endless war, President Trump’s more restrained foreign policy is proving effective. Should Turkey foolishly break the ceasefire agreement, the United States and its NATO allies have other avenues to ensure that Turkey faces consequences for violating alliance commitmentsor breaching their commitment to the alliance. I applaud the administration’s successful efforts to find peaceful solutions.
