The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Welfare Transparency Amendment sponsored by Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH). The amendment, which was offered to the Accelerating Individuals Into the Workplace Act (H.R. 2842), will direct states to collect and report data on the use of welfare benefits by individuals. “Despite spending trillions of dollars in the war on poverty, poverty rates are stagnant. One reason is because we are not tracking what works and what doesn't,” said Davidson. “This amendment will give us important data so that we can help break the cycle of poverty and get welfare recipients financially independent from government.”
Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) today introduced the Fair Representation Amendment. This proposed constitutional amendment would end the practice of counting non-citizens for electoral maps. If enacted, the number of representatives and electoral votes per state would reflect citizens rather than total population. Currently, the federal government allocates Congressional seats, as well as Electoral College votes, based on a state’s total number of “persons,” including non-citizens and illegal aliens. As a result, states that refuse to enforce immigration law, and thus have an inflated number of “persons,” are unjustly rewarded with more representatives in Congress and more clout in presidential elections than they would if only citizens were counted.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement in response to the Congressional Budget Office's (CBO’s) updated score of the American Health Care Act (AHCA): “The CBO only confirms that the AHCA’s entitlement reforms will reduce the deficit and its regulatory reforms will lower premiums. This updated score shows that the amendments added to the original bill will cause premiums to decrease potentially up to 30% in states that take advantage of the new waiver authority granted by the MacArthur Amendment. The Senate needs to act on this legislation as soon as possible so the American people can get relief from the rising costs of Obamacare.”

Today, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced in the House of Representatives that the Department of Education will reverse its decision to reject education grants due to minor errors, including the 8th District’s Wittenberg University. The news comes less than a month after Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) led a coalition of 32 members of the U.S. House of Representatives opposing the initial decision and demanding a reconsideration. Earlier this year, the Department of Education rejected 77 TRIO Upward Bound grants because they did not conform to minor, non-substantive guidelines such as line spacing and font type. The Upward Bound Program seeks to increase the educational attainment of low-income students by providing them with aid such as standardized test preparation, tutoring, and tuition assistance.

President Donald Trump, today, released the 2018 Budget, The New Foundation for American Greatness. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement after receiving the budget on the House Floor as Speaker Pro Tempore: “We cannot bankrupt America. Finally, it appears we have a president who takes this problem seriously. President Trump’s budget bends the out of control spending curve in the right direction by making good on his promises to reform mandatory spending, cut wasteful programs, and balance the budget. This is a serious proposal to begin addressing our nation’s fiscal crisis. Congress must now do our part and muster the political will to balance the budget, address our debt crisis, and get our economy growing again. It is not compassionate to bankrupt America.”

Today, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) introduced the Article One Restoration Resolution, H.Res. 330. The resolution would advance the House GOP’s BetterWay agenda by requiring a review of statutes that give the Executive Branch inappropriate lawmaking authority. The last Administration took advantage of its real and perceived discretion to increase taxes, stretch the Clean Water Act to enact WOTUS, undermine welfare work requirements, and attempt to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.
