Representing the 8th Congressional District of Ohio

Press Releases

May 24, 2017 Press Release
Today, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced in the House of Representatives that the Department of Education will reverse its decision to reject education grants due to minor errors, including the 8th District’s Wittenberg University. The news comes less than a month after Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) led a coalition of 32 members of the U.S. House of Representatives opposing the initial decision and demanding a reconsideration. Earlier this year, the Department of Education rejected 77 TRIO Upward Bound grants because they did not conform to minor, non-substantive guidelines such as line spacing and font type. The Upward Bound Program seeks to increase the educational attainment of low-income students by providing them with aid such as standardized test preparation, tutoring, and tuition assistance.

President Donald Trump, today, released the 2018 Budget, The New Foundation for American Greatness. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement after receiving the budget on the House Floor as Speaker Pro Tempore: “We cannot bankrupt America. Finally, it appears we have a president who takes this problem seriously. President Trump’s budget bends the out of control spending curve in the right direction by making good on his promises to reform mandatory spending, cut wasteful programs, and balance the budget. This is a serious proposal to begin addressing our nation’s fiscal crisis. Congress must now do our part and muster the political will to balance the budget, address our debt crisis, and get our economy growing again. It is not compassionate to bankrupt America.”

Today, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) introduced the Article One Restoration Resolution, H.Res. 330. The resolution would advance the House GOP’s BetterWay agenda by requiring a review of statutes that give the Executive Branch inappropriate lawmaking authority. The last Administration took advantage of its real and perceived discretion to increase taxes, stretch the Clean Water Act to enact WOTUS, undermine welfare work requirements, and attempt to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement after the passage of the Financial CHOICE Act (H.R. 10) in the House Financial Services Committee: “The Dodd-Frank Act continues to crush Americans and community banks with its thousands of pages of regulations. Since the bill passed seven years ago, access to working capital decreased and borrowing costs increased. The Financial CHOICE Act would set America’s economy and financial sector on the right course again. Voting to pass this bill through the Committee was a pleasure, and I look forward to voting for it again on the House floor.”

Last month, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) led 51 of his colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives in a letter urging President Donald Trump to sign an executive order protecting religious liberty. Rep. Davidson released the following statement after President Trump signed his executive order providing protections: “President Trump’s executive order will provide relief for organizations from the unfair HHS contraception mandate, ensure the free speech rights of faith leaders, and require federal agencies to follow the Constitution and current law. “While this is a good first step, more work remains. This order fails to roll back some of the worst progressive mandates of the Obama era. Namely, protections are still needed for religious organizations involved with adoptions, military chaplains serving our troops, federal contractors seeking to preserve their religious identity, and schools maintaining their religious mission. Hillary Clinton punctuated this affront to our Constitution, when she suggested those opposed to her progressive views simply change their doctrine.

Today, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Troy) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 244, the Consolidated Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2017. The bill passed the House by a vote of 309-118. "This omnibus bill protects the status quo. The status quo has created a $20 trillion debt crisis. This bill is a product of that same process: manage by crisis, jam in a last-minute package that overspends to 'buy' support, then celebrate small wins - all while ignoring the debt...

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement in support of Scott Garrett as Chairman of the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im): “Scott Garrett’s appointment as Chairman of the Export-Import Bank offers the best hope possible to rightly focus the government entity. Ex-Im was created eighty years ago by President Franklin Roosevelt. While the goals are noble, critics recognize the duplicity of claiming the creditworthiness of its balance sheet poses no risk to taxpayers, while suggesting that the risks it takes could not be borne by the private sector. Legendary for aerospace and aviation, Ohio is blessed with an abundance of companies that sell into sectors served by ExIm Bank. I am hopeful that as Chairman, and a longtime critic of government subsidies (including export subsidies through Ex-Im), Scott Garrett can reform the agency and protect taxpayers from providing yet another backstop for private capital.”
