Today, the House of Representatives adopted two amendments (Amendment #80 and Amendment #120) offered by Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) to the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Amendment #80 will encourage collaboration between the Federal Aviation Authority and the Department of Defense on unmanned aircraft research. “The Springfield Ohio National Guard Base located in our district plays an important supporting role for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s ongoing drone research activities. My amendment will strengthen coordination between FAA and DOD to help our make our region of Ohio a leader in unmanned aircraft research, development, testing, and manufacturing,” said Davidson. Amendment #120 will prohibit funding for military operations in Yemen that are not directly connected with the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force. This amendment ensures U.S. forces remain focused on the Congressionally authorized war against al Qaeda, not fighting in the Yemeni civil war. “We owe it to our troops to give them clear missions and the tools to accomplish them. Involving our military in a war against Houthi forces without Congressional authorization is out of the bounds of our Constitutional framework for making war. It also commits our soldiers and defense resources to ill-defined missions that do not support our national security,” said Davidson. The 2018 NDAA provides the funds needed to begin rebuilding our military after years of severe cuts that have reduced troop levels, created a readiness crisis, and delayed development of weapons systems needed to challenge our adversaries. The bill will also give troops their biggest pay raise in eight years. It passed the House by a vote 344-81. We owe it to our troops to give them clear missions and the tools to accomplish them. Involving our military in a war against Houthi forces without Congressional authorization is out of the bounds of our Constitutional framework for making war.

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement supporting the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act (H.R. 3003) and Kate’s Law (H.R. 3004) after final passage in the House of Representatives: “After years of refusing to enforce immigration laws, our illegal immigration problem is worse than ever. At home, Ohio suffers from the opioid epidemic after the previous eight years of lax enforcement. “These two bills we passed today will make Americans safer, but we must do more. House leadership should bring the Davis-Oliver Act, which would empower local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration laws, to the floor immediately. It would also prevent the executive branch from refusing to enforce immigration law like with the Obama Administration.”

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s reversal of the Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule: “Today’s announcement ends one of the most aggressive federal government power grabs in recent history. We all want clean water, but the WOTUS rule violates our Constitution. While the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineer’s move to end WOTUS should be the last we hear of this, Congress must also act by passing legislation to prevent any future administration from this kind of executive overreach."

The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Welfare Transparency Amendment sponsored by Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH). The amendment, which was offered to the Accelerating Individuals Into the Workplace Act (H.R. 2842), will direct states to collect and report data on the use of welfare benefits by individuals. “Despite spending trillions of dollars in the war on poverty, poverty rates are stagnant. One reason is because we are not tracking what works and what doesn't,” said Davidson. “This amendment will give us important data so that we can help break the cycle of poverty and get welfare recipients financially independent from government.”

Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) today introduced the Fair Representation Amendment. This proposed constitutional amendment would end the practice of counting non-citizens for electoral maps. If enacted, the number of representatives and electoral votes per state would reflect citizens rather than total population. Currently, the federal government allocates Congressional seats, as well as Electoral College votes, based on a state’s total number of “persons,” including non-citizens and illegal aliens. As a result, states that refuse to enforce immigration law, and thus have an inflated number of “persons,” are unjustly rewarded with more representatives in Congress and more clout in presidential elections than they would if only citizens were counted.

Thank you to all those who reached out concerning my safety. Please pray for Congress and our nation that the Lord may heal our land.”
